On the whole, American markets were sluggish this week, as wholesalers and distributors limited their stock. They instead covered only their most urgent needs, which necessitated quick delivery. Most prices nevertheless held steady or even rose, in anticipation of the imminent closing of most producers’ mills for the summer holiday. In addition, some products were both sought after and in short supply.
Demand, for green and kiln-dried both, appeared to be weak in Canada. Prices nevertheless held relatively even with those fetched last week.
Although prices were generally solid, our Pribec composite price index fell 1.7% this week, settling at $303.97 Cdn., the result primarily of the increasing value of the Canadian dollar.
