The QFIC is a non-profit organization active in two main sectors: lumber and pulp and paper, cardboard, and panels. It represents some 168 sawmills that produce more than 90% of Québec's lumber, in addition to 63 pulp and paper, cardboard, and panel mills-that is, the vast majority of mills operating in these sectors.
The lumber sector has two categories of members: regular members (lumber manufacturers) and associate members. The pulp and paper, cardboard, and panel sector is composed only of regular members.
LUMBER SECTOR REGULAR MEMBERS
Each lumber sector mill that becomes a member of the QFIC is given a personalized number, which appears on the member's stamp. This stamp makes it easier for clients to determine the origin of the lumber they bought.
In addition to being entitled to stamp the lumber they produce in accordance with National Lumber Grades Authority (NLGA) standards, regular lumber sector members enjoy several advantages, such as receiving the member directory as well as fee discounts during events like the annual convention. More importantly, they automatically receive the PRIBEC weekly as well as all media releases and backgrounders prepared by the QFIC on important issues affecting the forest industry.
LUMBER SECTOR ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
Associate Members are businesses that offer goods and services to the forest industry. These include lumber wholesalers and retailers, forestry contractors, equipment manufacturers, engineering consulting firms, etc.
These members enjoy numerous benefits. In addition to receiving the member directory, they may also take advantage of lower fees for attendance at the annual convention and subscription to the PRIBEC weekly. As well, they receive many of the media releases and backgrounders produced by the QFIC.
REGULAR MEMBERS OF THE PULP and PAPER, CARDBOARD, AND PANELS SECTOR
Regular members of the pulp and paper, cardboard, and panels sector receive the member directory, obviously. They also receive the same advantages as lumber sector members regarding QFIC-organized events. Finally, they also receive all information produced by the QFIC about issues concerning the forest industry, especially those specific to their areas of activity.
